Dokuritsu shôjo gurentai
(2004)

Aka : Samurai Chicks

Realisateur : Mari Asato

Cast : Megumi Shoji || Ayano Tachibana || Chiaki Ota || Tomomi Miyashita || R-Na || Kanji Tsuda

Musique :

Thème : Drame

Synopsis : The Orion Dancers Academy is a dance school fronting a terrorist training operation. The goal of winning independence from the establishment is placed on gifted young girls, as they become undercover operatives. Yuki, Aki, Saki & Micky enter the school as innocent teens and quickly lose their joyous charm under the weight of adult intrigue.

Mon avis : This is a very strange film. Flitting between J-pop cuteness and Battle Royale style killing I never got a sense of just what I was watching. Nor could I determine the director’s intent. Cute and violent just don’t mix well and this film is full of both. It is a short film, running at 70 minutes, and I think it can be watched by most anyone…but I do not believe there is any sense of satisfaction to be had from the film; more it is a study of peculiar contrasts. I was left feeling quite confused by this production. I watched it through to the end mostly to see what new tangent would be introduced next.

One last comment; there is a vague allusion to our young Yuki being the eternal protective spirit Shurayukihime (ie.lady snowblood). This reference is at the end of the film...possibly making an attempt to tie everything together silent .

My question for anyone is: Are these girls famous outside of this film? Are they known Idols?

Tout public : Oui

Ma quote : 6/10

Ho ! the plot looks like the sukebandeka flick. I bet this one will be applaused as it deserved. Another reason you may want to use is they are pretty cute on caps.

Hello Prisoner and Saki,

that was not a high risk proposing this movie here. there is almost every magical compoung to make movies becoming likable. a clique of cute girls being undiscovered detectives, action, girls punching vilains and I suppose vilains getting in jail or chopped in tiny pieces at the end of the plot. the right formula indeed. I'm checking the female cast.

as a rule, I've never heard about this movie yet. strange but realist, this highlight gaps in my method. it's a modern Kunoichi story, I'm a avide fan of this japanese cinema style.

Hello Prisoner,

we've just finished watching this movie and I'm affraid to not be able to add something tasteful to your comments. I've not understood the main plot, not because we've got a japanese release, just because the construction is somewhat messy. there are some sparkling visuals here and here, but according to your last sentence, I wonder how deep in japanese cinema knowledge, the director expected his public must have been to enjoy the show. on my modest vision, I've seen nothing constructive.

the cast, oh yes they are all cute, for the short time they have been alive. the actress Chiaki Ota is not unknown from me, she's one of the three pests harrasing the natural Tomie (Aoi Miyazaki) in Tomie: the final Chapter - Forbidden Fruit.

perhaps we should be more patient with these productions, but not blindly. my opinion is that this movie is not very good. I've seen numerous low cost production who were better done. it's short enough to not be bored.

hello best chemistry,

It wasn't a good film. I thought it might appeal to those who like cute Japanese girls. But I was flumoxed by the way they got offed so senselessly...it was all so um, pointless. I was intrigued by the extreme dichotomy between super cute and sensless killing.

Aplogies if I led you to believe it was good. As I have often said, good screencaps can make most films look good, even if they aren't.

At least now you have something to compare "poor" to now. (oh you didn't like their cute dance routines!...???

Hello Prisoner,

yes sure the dancing spots were pretty nice watching, this making the movie not being an empty space after all.

I will say that I've been disapointed because I've anticipated far too much about a plot sounding like Sukeban deka (Aya Matsuura and Biyuden girls) which is an universal all generation entertainment. but there was nothing I expected. worse, girls die in the movie. you're right, I have my bad references now, this will rise the rank from some previously bad ranked movies on Kagen no tsuki.

anyways, I'm sad about this result. this will not be good for the four actresses, in term of cinema carreer, for the simple unic reason that this movie is not famous at all.
