Kaidan nobori ryu
(1970)

Aka : Blind Woman's Curse || Black Cat's Revenge || The Haunted Life Of A Dragon-Tattooed Lass || The Tattooed Swordswoman || (Literally Translated Title: Strange Tales Of Dragon Tattoo)

Realisateur : Teruo Ishii

Cast : Meiko Kaji || Hoki Tokuda || Tatsumi Hijikata || Yôko Takagi || Tatsumi Hijikata

Musique :

Thème : drame

Synopsis : Meiko Kaji (Lady Snowblood, Female Convict Scorpion / Prisoner 701) is Akemi Tachibana, a young yakuza boss in early 20th century Japan. Unknown assailants who taunt and leave cryptic notes on the dead are attacking her gang. Adding to the depravity…the killers skin the tattoos from the backs of their victims. Akemi is the lone cool-headed member who must solve the mystery and keep her clan from falling apart. Revenge is not to be carried out rashly. Adding to the plot is the curse of a black cat, which Akemi believes is haunting her dreams and dictating her future. Further adding to the plot is the presence of a blind samurai assassin. This woman has hired herself to one of the rival clans.

Mon avis : Maiko Kaji is absolutely wonderful in this convoluted gem of a film. She also has an extensive script, which is a change from her strong silent persona that defined her during most of her later films.

Bind Woman’s Curse in a very unique mix of Samurai and Yakuza genres, sporting two strong female leads. Beautiful cinematography, atmospheric sets, and lavish costumes make this a film that does not age. Unlike many of her films that sit firmly in the Sexploitation genre, this film is more pure in its intent (if you can call samurai films pure???)

What more can I say…Maiko Kaji is Prisoner_701’s favorite actress. This film certainly supports why I think so.

Tout public : Oui

Ma quote : 9/10 (my bias)
