Koi gokudo(1997)
Aka : A Yakuza In Love
Realisateur : Rokuro Mochizuki
Cast : Yuna Natsuo || Eiji Okuda || Shunsuke Matsuoka || Yukio Yamanouchi
Musique :
Thème : drame
Synopsis : Director Rokuro Mochizuki adapted Yukio Yamanouchi’s original novel to screen. A Yakuza in Love is the shocking portrait of an unstable man so enamoured with a waitress he meets in a café that he dates her, rapes her, and kidnaps her. If that isn’t enough he secretly gets her hooked on sabu (heroin) too. Laden with doses of harsh reality, the film explores the effects that profound levels of loneliness and pain have on individuals. Yakuza in Love is a love story, but it comes from a perspective rarely seen.
Mon avis : Actor Eiji Okuda is brilliant in the role of Kinichi Sakata. Logic, reason and morality are foreign concepts to this insane and loveable hit man. He’s a cold hard killer, junkie, first-rate loser, reckless gambler and womanizer. At times bordering on lunacy, as I fully expected the film to launch into over-the-top hilarity at any moment… it never does. Instead the film travels a dark path into the world of Yakuza sleaze and drug addiction paranoia. Yuna Natsuo (Suicide Club) excels in her role as the young and naïve Yoko. Her transition from cute waitress to drug addicted junkie is remarkable. It is shocking to see her adapt so quickly to a world of flying fists, drugs, guns and violent sex.Surprising me most about the film is the way it attempts to take itself lightly. Yet it is impossible to ignore the violently dysfunctional relationships, the deadpan violence and the completely amoral behaviour from every one involved. Yakuza in Love is a great film with outstanding performances from both Eiji Okuda and Yuna Natsuo. Eigi Okuda is an amazing actor and noted director too as he starred in and directed the film Shoujo / An Adolescent…his acting is fluid and at times goofy, but never ever funny…he alone probably contributes most to the bizarre dichotomy inherent within the film. Highly recommended.
