| Yeah good point about posting the Youtube links, sorry! I'll get them up either tomorrow or Monday. I will tell ya though, the Japanese agencies? Boy they get their stuff down from youtube like THAT! I found out that they have trollers, that search youtube to make sure that their stars don't have any illegal youtube vids posted. Pineapple got her account deleted for all of the Chiaki stuff she had up. And many people that post Aya's concerts, videos or TV appearances get their accounts deleted. Hey, I can't say nay about it, because they are unauthorized, but it damn sure cuts down on the ability to get free publicity and recognition beyond the borders of wherever you're at. Its a double-edged sword. |

| Wow, I never experienced difficulty to know Ueto, she is very very popular!

Aya Ueto (上戸 彩) was born 14 September 1985 in Tokyo.
From Wikipedia:
"In 1997, Aya Ueto participated in the 7th All-Japan National Young Beauty contest, where she received a special award from the judges. Her discovery led to many TV commercial deals, which eventually started her acting career.
"In 1999, she formed the J-pop band Z-1 with Mami Nejiki, Mai Fujiya, and Manami Nishiwaki. They released five singles before breaking up, but Aya went on to start a solo career when she signed with Pony Canyon two years later. She released her first single, 'Pureness,' in 2002. It peaked at #4 on the Oricon charts and became the first female artist debut single in 3 years and 3 months to enter the Top 5 since Kyoko Fukada. Since then, she has released thirteen singles and six albums. Throughout her soon to be five year old solo musical career she has collaborated with the likes of Tetsuro Oda, RYOJI (from Ketsumeishi), Toshihiko Takamizawa (from The Alfee), Toko Furuuchi and Suguru Shimabukuro (from Begin).
"Aya began her acting career in May 1999 in the movie Killer of Paraiso. In 2000 she received her first role in a drama, Namida wo Fuite. In 2001, she played a part in Kinpachi-sensei, and her performance greatly boosted her popularity. She starred in several later dramas, including Koukou Kyoushi 2003, Hitonatsu no Papa e, and Ace o Nerae! She also ventured into the big screen in famed film director Ryuhei Kitamura's 2003 blockbuster Azumi and in its sequel, Azumi 2: Death or Love in 2005, where she played the title role in both.
"She is often said to physically resemble Japanese star Momoe Yamaguchi and is widely regarded to be one of the biggest idols in Japan today. She is often mentioned as a 'super idol.' As of 2007, Aya Ueto remains ubiquitous in Japan, appearing constantly on magazines and in commercials."
She is truly super idol, very very popular in Japan! because fine actress with many abilities and also fine singer. 2006 she was star of really funny drama series Shimokita Sundays, she plays role of young college student who is attracted to one group of very unsuccessful actors who are trying to make their reputations in Tokyo! Also I recommend movie Install, she plays role of high school student who cannot learn to use computer until taught by age 10 boy! who is genius and also interested to learn about life from her! too funny movie! My opinion, she is best for comedy, not serious!
Hint: Ueto dramas and movies are available from d-addicts and silent regrets sites. Go to this page drama wiki, you will find all TV shows and movies, with links: http://wiki.d-addicts.com/Ueto_Aya
Also I put something about her in Knt singer thread, including some music, okay? you will like! _________________ Fumiko |

| Pineapple called Aya a robot, so? Last year I decided to call her Lovely Robot Warrior, Aya Ueto! I could probably make a killing off of manga sales alone, or!?!? Ohhh if I made a series of hentai manga!?!? I'D BE RICH!!!! Her fans would probably hate me though, so... Guess I'll pass... for now.
Seriously though. I always suspected that Aya was just not ready for serious roles, so I wrote the Walking Dead character of Takahashi Utsumi solely and specifically for her. Utsumi was/is, kind of goofy and awkward, silly at times and more than a little naive. This makes for an especially clumsy former espionage agent for Spec Op Sun, which is what Utsumi was till they realized she was more of a threat to them, than the enemy.
I believe Aya can be eased into serious roles if she is given transitional roles like this first. Where her natural charm and humor can hide the vulnerability of not being able to accomplish the serious minded tasks as well as she needs to. |

| Hello Geesehoward,
perhaps it's because she's always in the same segment, nobody want's to propose her more heavy roles. being so much on media could have a side effect if she accept to do something damageable for her sweet everlasting smily image.

| Hello Best Chemistry!
You are absolutely right. She did some TV drama within the last two years where her character ended up sleeping with some older man so he would keep buying her gifts and she could keep living the glamorous life without earning it on her own. From the few forums I passed through the fans, especially the men were very upset by this. I witnessed two or three heavy arguments between Japanese male and female fans where the women felt as though the men were being unfair and harsh towards Aya.
I believe if I dig through my old records of sites I have visited I may have the link to this place, but I am not sure that it is the current CPU Tower I am using or one of my other two old ones. Either way it was very ugly and turned very personal because it was really an argument about what can women do in Japanese society that isn't deemed whorish to men, while men do the same thing and it is considered okay.
I have witnessed this conversation extensively in Korean based areas too. These things go on everywhere, but they definitely get turned up another notch among East Asian's when they are brought up or brought out, even in entertainment. Then, as you said, it also comes down to the public/PR Image, that the idol has created, OR!?!? HAD CREATED FOR HER! By her Agency! And that is also very important because, especially in Japan, the Agency is the boss for the most part. |

| Unfortunately such is not unknown practice in Japan during recent generation: enjo kosai which is like "dating for assistance" in English, school girls going for dates or making sex with older men who give expensive gifts to them.
I would be kind of shocked if I watched Ueto in such a movie role, because she does not display such a hard personality in life. (As Howard says, perhaps her personality is artifact of management company, but it is only Ueto personality I know!) _________________ Fumiko |

| Hi,
Enjo kosai do not mean going in bed. It can be just for a dinner or a walk. Girls are rewarded with money or gifts.
If I have lived with Aya Ueto I could say how she is in real. Her reality may not be the same her agent impose her to show. |

| This is truth, sakura, we cannot know her personality until we are interacting with her in daily life. But Japanese entertainers are not so separated from their audience members as western entertainers, they like to be very close to us, and we like to close to them too. So we learn everything about their personal lives, we learn about their families and personal tragedies and also their successes in small ordinary parts of life, you can read many such things here in Knt especially you read things I post about musicians and singers.
So perhaps Ueto is not exactly as she shows to us, but I think she is very similar to her public persona, because her fans would know if she is not. An example of this reversed: when sweet Erika Sawajiri was rude to TV interviewer, but then apologized next day and explained much stress that was affecting her, audience did not reject her as some magazine attempted to persuade! instead she is forgive! because audience knows she is not rude nasty person in her heart. _________________ Fumiko |

You have good insight, kanabun, this is exactly our attitude. If we shall consider these people as members of our own personal community, of course we want them to be good members! and of course we shall listen to them when they tell us to be good members too. _________________ Fumiko |

| I say Ueto is a strange person. Cute, smile and talent and young. Being famous have for idol thay cannot do wrong to not upset people.
Every day, other people are looking if Ueto will do a wrong act, if she is false (meant a doubleface girl) she will do a wrong act one day. But no wrong act have been done ==> she is like she exhib. |

| It needs to be pointed out that tons of money is spent to MAKE SURE that J-idols, especially women, present the best image possible to appease fans and keep them. Many have often wondered why Chaiki was NOT Mitsuko in Battle Royale and even Zanlius knew straight off the bat that Chiaki's image was very well thought out and crafted by her agency. There was a potential risk of damaging that if she played a character who, in the books was quite the whore, but was never really delved into within the movies.
This is another reason why Kou Shibasaki was able to vault from nowhere to Uber-Idol, because she did not have a carefully crafted image.
In saying that, I would advise caution in buying into something that has been proven time-and-again to be as deceptive as any Western entertainer or star, and that is, PR! PR, Public Relations and the PR spin is much more prevalent in Japan than it is in most Western countries, and maintaining a "good image" is more important than even the truth at times. This can lead and has led, to various moments where the created PR Image is nothing like the reality. Maintaining a good PR Image is important in both Eastern and Western entertainment, but due to cultural variance it can become almost a control factor unto itself in Eastern Society...
With that said, Aya will ultimately need to do more challenging work if only to continue to grow and it needs to be pointed out that last time I checked, Aya is still a high school dropout... |

| Hi,
I also think Aya is still a high school young woman. Agency should stretch time to keep her with this image because this image makes full money and they do not know if another mature image could return.
If one day you see Aya challenging in some weird rolls like, a killer, a yakuza, a dirty character, then time of image change is arrived. She will be in background for all her current jobs. |

| Hi, sakura! Ueto is already playing roles of college students and young newly married mother in TV series, and she is about age 22 herself, so this is match probably, not trying to play elder roles too soon.
Abarenbo Mama and Shimokita Sundays (this one is very funny!)
