that is strange -- what they want to do with these ?

I know this only because my work, which involves robotic satellites, but: Japan is leading in engineering of robots, especially robots that appear to be human or share some kind of human characteristics. Reasons for this have been told sometimes: like USA, Japan has aging population, but Japan is not so open to immigration as USA or other countries, so taking care of older people will become very challenge soon! Robotic techniques are developed so that younger people can use such to care for their elderly parents! Truth!

Very difficult to tell from person, yes? There is some theory that people do not respond in positive emotion to robot unless robot is exactly like person, or very different and completely like machine. This theory was made by some Japanese professor during 1980s but he never proved through research.
